The galleries have come a long way since I first decided I was going to do them. Lots of stuff has changed in the 3 years or so. Finally have something that myself and the visitors seem to like.

The Beginning

Going back to March 2008, when I first got it in my head that I would undertake the whole gallery idea, I just went with what I thought was easiest, which was HTML, and at the time, I only collected about 30 images, so HTML wasn't much of an issue, over time as more and more people were using the galleries, I realised I needed some better way of doing it.

The PHP Era

After struggling with maintaining the galleries, I decided to play around with the idea of a prebuilt image gallery which was done in PHP, I didn't like using it as it was quite restrictive and I developed a simple PHP site that just searched directories on the server and pulled back what images it used. This was fine until people wanted to remove pictures.

The ASP.Net Era (Work)

In April 2010, I started work with Convallis Software, a Software Development company based about 3 miles from home. One of my first projects to play around with ASP.Net and make something of the galleries. While developing ConvallisCMS, we added a feature, which allowed the user to create galleries and lists, using this I had an easy way to maintain the galleries and I could change the design and features as I wanted, I was so glad to find a simple option for once!

Latest Happenings

As the galleries grew, I added commenting and other features to the site to make them a little more usable, but with the increased space and bandwidth, I decided to move the galleries into a more permanent home at Nytemare. The galleries have so much space over there they have space to have kids, or even grandkids! The galleries also now house various tools that will help a neflarian out.
